Salt Lake County Farm Field Day
The Salt Lake Conservation District helps sponsor Salt Lake County Farm Field Day every spring. Elementary students spend a day on the farm learning in a hands-on environment. Students enjoy presentations on soil, water, food production and much more. Student's favorite activities include the petting zoo, and the roping station. The 2010 farm field day will be held May 4th and 5th at Butterfield Farm.

Utah Envirothon

The Envirothon is a natural resource competition for high school students. Teams of five students must, over the course of the school year, prepare themselves for this two-day outdoor competition, usually held in late April or early May each year. Teams are tested on their knowledge in five designated study areas: aquatic ecology, forestry, soils/land use, wildlife and a current environmental issue. The current issue changes annually.

Utah's winning team represents the state at the Canon Envirothon, the North American competition, which rotates around the U.S. and Canada. The Utah Envirothon pays transportation and lodging costs for five team members and two advisors to the five-day event. The Canon Envirothon brings together teams from over 50 US states and Canadian provinces. Teams compete for over $100,000 in Canon Envirothon scholarships and other prizes.

Nature High Summer Camp

The Nature High Summer Camp is a week long high energy learning experience for High School aged youth living in the state of Utah. The camp is sponsored by several federal agencies and costs only $50.00 for students.

Set in the Manti-LaSal National Forest, the Great Basin Environmental Education Center provides an idyllic setting to learn about natural resources management. Federal professionals share their expertise by providing actual field experiences in Hydrology, Rangeland Conservation, Wildlife Biology, Soils and Forestry. They help the participants see the fun, (and frustrations) of a federal career. For more information click here.

Utah Range Camp

Utah Natural Resources Field School, also known as Range Camp, offers students a background in ecological principles and the tools used to measure the health of our rangelands, as well as an understanding of the resource management process. A great deal of the time is also spent learning and discussing the role of humans in natural resources, with special attention given to the process of resolving conflict. The field school is an intense week of hands-on outdoor activities, hikes and classroom study. The top two students will receive an expense paid trip to the International Range Society Convention. 
Natural Resource Field School is open to 25 high school students, 15 or older, from Utah. The cost of the school is $100 per student. For more information click here.
